Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. She founded Feminist Frequency which is a website with video content and blogs analysing the way women are depicted in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. She was the co-creator and the director executive of Feminist Frequency, a not-for-profit educational website which explores the portrayals of women in pop cultural narratives. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women and the way they are depicted in pop culture. Furthermore, she is working to increase awareness about cyber-bullying targeting women as well as marginalized groups of society. The holder of a master's degree in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also popular as a public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Interested in issues concerning gender identities and feminisms from the age of 7, she started her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while being a student at the university. Someone who was ambitious planned to create a web-series to study the gender roles in gaming. Then, she found herself as the victim of a cyber-bullying campaign. However, the harassment didn't discourage her. This only helped her in her role as a journalist who is feminist. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and founded Feminist Frequency, an educational non-profit that explores women's representations in popular culture.
